Employee Giving & Volunteering
HCA has a long and rich tradition of caring for our community through corporate gifts, foundation investments and employee participation in locally focused giving campaigns. Each year, our employees generously give their time and money to help our friends and neighbors in need. We have been fortunate as individuals and as an organization, and it is part of our culture and values to give back as we are able.
HCA Caring for the Community Campaign 2011
Each year, HCA gives its corporate employees the opportunity to focus their giving on charities in Middle Tennessee and throughout the nation. Employees are also given the opportunity to gain deeper knowledge of organizations or volunteer with them during our Agency Fair and Community Day (see below). In the 2011 Caring for Community Campaign, HCA employees pledged $2.9M to agencies, bringing the total HCA gift to the community, including matching funds, coin tokens and volunteer hours, to over $3.9M. This was an all-time fundraising high for this campaign.
How many unsung heroes make a difference in your community? This year, the HCA Caring for the Community Campaign sought out and recognized these heroes through our campaign entitled “Heroes for Hope.” HCA employees and the HCA Foundation ventured out into the community to meet the needs of agencies in Nashville, supporting them through service and giving.
Agency Fair 2011
With the HCA Agency Fair, employees are given the opportunity to learn more about the non-profit organizations with which HCA and the HCA Foundation have relationships. During the event, agency representatives are set up in clusters grouped by focus area (e.g. Childhood and Youth Development, Health and Well Being, Arts) to help employees locate and learn about programs, as well as give an opportunity for networking between organization representatives.
In 2011, we hosted around 130 agencies for the Agency Fair, complete with opportunities for HCA employees to donate directly to agencies and find out about a service project in which they can participate during Community Day.
Note: If you are interested in being considered as a partner agency for 2012, please check back on the website in Spring 2012.
Community Day 2011
HCA offers its employees one day a year during this campaign, and outside of their Caring for Community Hours, to volunteer with their colleagues at various non-profit organizations throughout Middle Tennessee. The goal is not only to support the needs of our partner agencies, but also to expose employees to a wider range of community organizations, enabling more meaningful community-based relationships to develop. In 2011, 1,835 HCA employees volunteered with about 120 projects, donating more than 10,500 volunteer hours.
Employee Giving System
The Employee Giving System allows corporate employees to give, track, and consolidate their time and resources through an easy online interface. Through the system, employees can post and sign up for volunteer projects, make year round donations to any 501(c)(3) organization in the U.S. and have their donations as board members matched. The Power of One program offers any corporate employee that logs 25 hours of volunteer service with a single agency the opportunity for a $500 grant to be awarded to the agency. At the end of the year, the ten agencies with the most volunteer hours recorded will also receive $1,000 each. Furthermore, the Team HCA grant allows teams of corporate employee volunteers to earn up to $500 in material costs for a service project of their choice.
Supporting HCA Volunteers: Caring for the Community Hours
The HCA Foundation encourages volunteerism and community engagement through Caring for the Community Hours. HCA employees receive 24 hours a year (12 for part-time employees) to volunteer at local agencies during regular business hours. To help facilitate this engagement, Community Relations provides a current listing of opportunities and assists in matching employee interest to a cause through our online giving system (see Employee Giving). To submit a volunteer opportunity, please contact Joe Flynn.
